The Winning EdgeTo: University Faculty and StaffFrom: J. Michael Adams, President Re: The Winning Edge Program I am pleased to announce our new Winning Edge Program, which will provide revenue sharing incentives for University faculty and staff who design and develop programs that will strengthen the University’s academic enterprise and generate additional revenue and cost-saving initiatives. For most of its history the University, like many other private universities, has relied heavily on tuition and tuition-related revenue to meet expenses. Although we are working diligently to identify non-tuition revenue sources, the University will continue to rely upon tuition revenues for the foreseeable future. Thus, added sources of revenue will remain important to our overall fiscal health. Fairleigh Dickinson has an impressive faculty and staff. They continually develop responsive and innovative academic programs and student support services to meet the needs of our ever-changing population. I am confident we will continue to establish groundbreaking academic programs and find ways to maximize our resources. To encourage and reward creativity and entrepreneurship, I asked the Executive Vice President’s Cabinet to develop a policy that allows revenue from these new and enhanced academic programs to be shared with the program’s “champions”, the department, college and campus, as well as opportunities for individuals to be compensated for their creative non-academic cost savings and revenue enhancement initiatives. The result is Fairleigh Dickinson’s Winning Edge Program, which will provide specific financial rewards to the individuals and departments who generate new revenue or implement cost-saving programs. The Winning Edge policy is posted on the FDU website under Faculty and Staff. You may access it directly at http://inside.fdu.edu/winningedgex/wepolicy.html. Please review the policy to see how you and your colleagues can benefit from this exciting initiative. I hope that this program will be an added incentive for individuals to put their creative ideas into action.
