Charter Day and The PINNACLE

June 4, 2004 marks a special day in the University’s long, successful history. It is the first time that two prestigious awards are being recognized in one evening – Charter Day and The PINNACLE.

Charter Day

Each year since 1990, Fairleigh Dickinson University has honored an individual in recognition of professional leadership and community contributions. Support from Charter Day enables a number of students to attend the University as Charter Day Scholars. These undergraduate students exhibit significant leadership on campus and in the larger community, and earn cumulative grade point averages of at least 3.0. Charter Day Scholars show a personal commitment to developing the same leadership qualities Charter Day honorees have shown.

Charter Day Scholarships are awarded in three categories:

  • Student Leadership – awarded to full-time sophomores and juniors who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average and demonstrate significant campus and/or community involvement and on-campus leadership in clubs and organizations.

  • Academic Achievement – awarded to full-time sophomores and juniors who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement by maintaining at least a 3.75 grade point average and are involved in extracurricular activities.

  • Presidential Scholars – awarded to sophomores and juniors who demonstrate campus and/or community involvement and outstanding academic achievement.

Since 1990, Charter Day activities have raised more than $2.6 million toward scholarships for motivated students. This exciting success is due to the goodwill and generosity of corporations, foundations, alumni and friends of Fairleigh Dickinson University, and the dedication and diligence of the individuals who lead the Executive Dinner Committee each year.

The PINNACLE Society

The PINNACLE was introduced by Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1989 to formally recognize and acknowledge the contributions and achievements of its most distinguished alumni. Today’s ceremony honors the newest members of what has become an ongoing organization for leading FDU alumni.

Since its founding in 1942, the University has been committed to providing its students with the education, values and encouragement needed to become active and contributing members of the larger world community. More than 98,000 FDU alumni have gone on to enrich and improve society through their work, volunteer activities and personal actions. Among their ranks, a select few have achieved the highest possible level of performance — the pinnacle — in their respective pursuits.

This class of The PINNACLE was chosen by the past inductees, based on the following criteria: Success or distinction in one’s chosen field of endeavor; significant contributions to society and humanity through public or humanitarian service; and outstanding service to the University or reflection of the unique character of FDU in one’s life.

Induction into The PINNACLE is one of the highest honors Fairleigh Dickinson University can extend to its sons or daughters. Yet, The PINNACLE accomplishes far more than recognizing individual alumni achievements; it is a celebration of the collective unity and pride shared by all FDU alumni in their alma mater and an affirmation of the value all place on its continued well-being and excellence.
