Wintersession Study in Sunny Belize

All three courses will be offered abroad, in cooperation with FDU’s sister institution, Galen University, which is located in San Ignacio, Cayo District, Belize, Central America. You may enroll in one, two or all three field courses, which will run back-to-back beginning January 3rd and ending January 24th, 2004. Courses may be taken for credit or on a continuing education (non-credit) basis.

The registration deadline for courses 1-2 is December 23rd, for course 3 it's January 9th

Below are the costs and important travel information

Costs:

Tuition – for each student and for each course is $637 (and will cover the following costs associated with the first two courses only):

· Tuition.

· Use of Galen U facilities during courses.

· All costs associated with transportation (shuttle) from residence village to campus and back each day.

· All costs associated with field excursions (transportation, admission to sites, etc.).

· Airport transfers (from airport to residence village in San Ignacio, and from residence village back to the airport).

Airfare

$700 (round trip air from Newark to Belize City on a major U.S. carrier).

$92 (round trip air on Tropic Air, which will take students from the international airport in Belize City to Caye Caulker and back for the third course).

Room and Board

$190 per week (for the first two courses; double occupancy cabanas in San Ignacio, at Cahal Pech Village Resort. This resort is situated on a mountain top overlooking San Ignacio, and only 250 yards from the Cahal Pech Mayan ruins (www.cahalpech.com). It offers double occupancy cabanas or traditional rooms decorated in Mayan décor. The rooms have full baths and cable TV. In addition, the resort offers an in-ground swimming pool and a full dining facility. The rate includes breakfast and dinner daily at the resort. The rate of $190 also includes lunch for students each day at a rate of $5 per day or $35 per week, which may be obtained in various locations depending on where each day may lead.

$245 per week (for the third course; double, triple or quadruple occupancy apartments in Caye Caulker, at the Caye Caulker Apartments). All apartments are full efficiency units with a kitchen, full bath, and cable TV. The rate includes lunch (boxed lunches if necessary) and dinner provided on an open-menu basis at Rasta Pasta beach restaurant in Caye Caulker (only a short walk from the Caye Caulker Apartments). Breakfasts are also available at Rasta Pasta at a rate of $7 per day for those who would like to have breakfast on any given day (the additional $49 for seven breakfasts is not included in the rate of $245). Bikes are also available for rental on a weekly basis for an additional $20.

Optional Overnight Trip

$200 (trip to the Mayan ruins in Tikal, Guatemala, on the weekend between the first and second courses, for those students taking both courses). Cost is inclusive of everything (transportation, admission to the site, hotel, and meals).

Course Fee

$165 (for third course). This fee covers the cost for weekly rental of snorkeling equipment (mask, snorkeling tube, and fins), share of rental of group boat, captain, tour guide, disposable underwater cameras, etc.

Total Costs to Students

Course 1 - $1,527 or $1,727 if they elect the trip to Guatemala

Course 2 - $1,527 or $827 additional for students taking Course 1 as well

Course 3 - $1,839 to $1,908 (depending on options—breakfast and bike rental) or $1,139 to $1,208 additional for students taking Course 1 and/or Course 2 as well

All 3 courses - $3,493 to $3,762 (depending on options)
