WischDirector-School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism ManagementDr. Richard Wisch is the Director of the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management. He has been a member of the School's faculty since 1981. In addition to teaching, he has served as Director of Undergraduate Studies, Director of the Internship Program, Director of Professional Development and Acting Director of the School prior to assuming full directorship in 1995. Dr. Wisch has a B.A. in Philosophy from St. John's University, New York, an M.A. in Food Service Management from New York University and a Doctorate in Higher Education from Columbia University. He also studied Hospitality Management at Cornell University. Dr. Wisch is considered an expert in experiential education. His doctoral dissertation dealt with the usage of learning system design applied to hospitality education internship programs.From 1987-1990 he was Chair of the Internship Technical Committee for the Council for Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education. In that capacity, he conducted numerous seminars for hospitality educators and industry regarding internship program development. He has also published articles regarding internship education in various hospitality education journals. In 1997, he was asked by the New Jersey Hotel and Motel Association to Chair its Education Committee charged with setting up internship standards for utilization in its member properties. In addition to his 25-year career in education, Dr. Wisch was literally"raised" in the hospitality business. He worked in his family's catering business for many years and undertook numerous management positions in other food and beverage operations. From 1978 to 1981 he was involved in the creation and development of the first "bus programs" to Atlantic City at Resort's International, Caesar's Boardwalk Regency and Bally's Park Place Hotel and Casino. Dr. Wisch prides himself on being a "hands-on" administrator who is known for his friendly involvement with students, faculty, staff, alumni and industry. He works, closely with many two-year colleges in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, as well as numerous professional hospitality organizations locally and nationally. Since assuming the directorship of the School in 1995, Dr. Wisch, with the help of the School's faculty, staff and Board of Advisors has increased its enrollment fourfold by introducing numerous undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificate programs. He expanded its campus representation from Teaneck-Hackensack to Florham-Madison in New Jersey; Tel Aviv, Israel; Wroxton, England and a dual degree program at Union County College, Atlantic City, and Jersey City, New Jersey the School's newest location.
