Dr. Peter Benson

Professor of English, Department of Literature, Language, Writing, and Philosophy

Peter Benson teaches courses in American literature, African literature, and writing. He lived and taught for six years in Africa, in Sierra Leone, Kenya, and Senegal, at four different universities. His publications include scholarly articles, scholarly biographies, feature articles, books and poems. His most recent book, Battling Siki: A Tale of Ring Fixes, Race, and Murder in the 1920s, is available in both hardcover and paperback online, from amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com. Ring Magazine called it "one of the most comprehensivie and intriguing boxing biographies in recent memory." The London Independent called it "impeccably researched and beautifully written." Sport History Review called it "a tremendous book, useful to understanding race, sport, and crime n the 1920s." Thomas Hauser, author of the definitive biography of Muhammad Ali, wrote that it "has all the elements of a Shakespearean tragedy set in the 1920s."
