I have been at UWI since September 1991, a rather long time to be in one place, but I like the challenge of working in a regional Caribbean institution, particularly because of my abiding interest in Caribbean literature and culture. I teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in postcolonial literature and theory, West Indian literature, literary theory, African-American literature, and modern prose fiction. I have published articles on Paul Gilroy, and on Caribbean writers such as Derek Walcott, David Dabydeen, Sylvia Wynter, and Lindsay Barrett, colonial travel writing, and reggae and nationalism. As a member of a small department, I am often called on to teach a medley of courses ranging from Shakespeare to dub poetry, hence my appreciation for the eclecticism and interdisciplinary focus of a course like FDU's "The Global Challenge." I am a bit of a "techie", having owned a PC since the frontier days of the early 1980s, so I am excited by the synthesis of online technology and distance education. I am sure that I will learn a lot from participating in this project, and I hope that I can introduce FDU students to some Caribbean perspectives on global issues, particularly those of conflict and terrorism.Links of interest: University of the West Indies, Mona campus Email address: neddie@jol.com.jm | ||
