James R. Kuehl

Professor of Philosophy, University Core Director, Florham-Madison Campus

My reason for teaching philosophy, coordinating the philosophy program on the Madison campus, and directing the University Core is one and the same. I believe that a liberal (liberating ) education is one of the very most practical things a person can have. Working on making our minds more flexible, more able to vary our perspectives, enables us to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

In philosophy my own work has centered in a perspective called Idealism. This view emphasizes the constructive role which the mind plays in determining reality and knowing. I love to travel, hike, play Bridge, and dabble at becoming an Egyptologist.
