Teaching English Overseas University of Manchester Ph.D. English University of Bombay | Dr. Nilufer BharuchaGlobal Visiting LecturerI studied at the universities of Bombay and Manchester and am currently a Professor or English at the University of Bombay. My areas of specialization are Postcolonial Literatures and Theories, The Literature of the Raj and Applied Linguistics. I wrote articles and reviews that appeared in the following international and Indian academic journals: Wasafiri, Ariel, Journal of Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies, Literary Criterion, New Quest, Indian Horizons, Biblio, The Indian Journal of Applied Linguistics, Literature Alive, Indian Literature and several critical anthologies published in India and abroad. I have co-edited Indian English Fiction 1980-1990: An Assessment, Postcolonial Perspectives on the Raj and its Literature and Mapping Cultural Spaces, Postcolonial Indian Literature in English.I have also written several short stories which have been published in The Illustrated Weekly of India, Eve's Weekly and the Indian PEN. I have also done translations from the Urdu and these have appeared in the Sunday Observer. Some of the stories and critical pieces are available on the Indiaworld (short stories) site on the Internet. I was Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellow at the Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London in 1994-1995 and have also lectured and presented papers at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, London, the universities of Leeds, Reading, Manchester in the U.K. and the Avignon University in France. I have also done a lecture tour of German universities under the aegis of the British Council, Germany, in June 1995. I have been a Visiting Professor in Postcolonial Literatures at the Otto-Von-Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany; the University of Barcelona, Spain and the University of Avignon, France. I have also been a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Visiting Professor at the University of Siegen, Germany. I love traveling, Hindustani and Western classical music, cinema and animals. I live in Mumbai, the commercial capital of India with my husband Dr. Sridhar Rajeswaran, who is also an academic and a poet and playwright.
