Professor Peter Woolley Receives Presidential Citation
Teaneck, NJ (September 28, 2005) — Professor Peter Woolley was honored at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s academic convocation on September 28, 2005, with a Presidential Citation.
University President J. Michael Adams presented the award and applauded Woolley, a professor of political science and executive director of FDU’s independent opinion research center, PublicMind.
Adams noted that Dr. Woolley has translated his abundant knowledge of political theory into a cutting-edge research and polling organization that has done survey research on issues as diverse as national elections, homeland security, consumer intentions and the psyche of New Jersey. “Through PublicMind, an exceptional entity,” said Adams, “you continue to raise the visibility of our University and enhance our reputation and prestige.”
As the primary spokesman for PublicMind, Peter Woolley is sought by national and regional news organizations for his balanced and insightful commentary on breaking news as well as the latest poll. Both National Public Radio and CBS-TV tapped him for on-air commentary on the 2004 presidential election. He is regularly quoted in The New York Times and the Associated Press.
A faculty member on FDU’s College at Florham campus since 1987, Woolley is co-editor of American Politics: Core Argument/Current Controversy (Prentice-Hall, 2nd ed., 2002), book review editor for The Journal of Conflict Studies, and a contributor to such professional journals as Strategic Review, The Naval War College Review, Conflict Quarterly, The Journal of East and West Studies and Asian Survey.
Woolley’s award makes special mention of his commitment to the academic growth of his students and the unique opportunities he provides — enabling them to work on many aspects of polling and analysis.
Adams concluded, “For your commitment to your students and to your University, and for expanding the reach of Fairleigh Dickinson through PublicMind, I gratefully present you this President Citation.”
