Opera at Florham Offers Public A Valentine's Day Greeting
Madison, NJ – February 5, 2007 – Bring your special valentine to Opera at Florham’s evening of romantic music from the masters on Saturday, February 17, 2007. Soprano Vanessa Salaz and tenor Marcos Santos will sing favorites from opera, operetta and Broadway.
The evening begins at 8 p.m., in Lenfell Hall, The Mansion, on the College at Florham campus of Farleigh Dickinson University. Tailgate is available at 7 p.m. and reserved seating is available with groups of eight. Admission is $35, $30 for seniors, and students under 21, $10. Vanessa Salaz made her Connecticut Grand Opera debut as the Countess in “Le Nozze di Figaro.” She had a very successful European debut as Fiordiligi in “Cosi fan tutte” with the Festival Lyrique en Mer in France and has been invited back to sing Donna Anna in “Don Giovanni” this summer. Later this season she will sing Donna Elvira in “Don Giovanni” and Michaela in “Carmen” with Opera in the Heights, Houston.
On the concert stage, Ms. Salaz made her Carnegie Hall debut as the soprano soloist with the New England Symphonic Ensemble in Schubert’s “Mass in G.” She was the soprano soloist with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and Boys Chorus in the Christmas Concert special, “Christmas at the Mission” which was nationally broadcast on PBS.
She recently completed her professional studies program at Manhattan School of Music and she received her Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees from the University of Arizona.
Tenor Marcos Santos, a native of Portugal, began his vocal studies at the Conservatorio Nacional de Lisbon. In April he sang the Fourth Jew and covering Naraboth in “Salome” with the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon. In July he will make is debut at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon in as the Police Officer in “The Nose” by Shostakovich.
Mr. Santos attended Mannes College of Music in New York. While a student at Mannes, he performed the role of Des Grieux in Massenet's “Manon”, conducted by Joseph Colaneri (Metropolitan Opera). Mr. Santos made is debut as Alfredo in “La Traviata” in New Jersey with the stage director James Marvel, and sang the role of Baron Ottokar in Weber's “Der Freischütz” with the Bronx Opera.
