2010 New Jersey Student Entrepreneur Competition Launched for Undergraduate Students at New Jersey Colleges and UniversitiesMadison, NJ (February 3, 2010) – Fairleigh Dickinson University’s top-ranked Rothman Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies announces that applications for the 2010 New Jersey Student Entrepreneur Awards are now available. The competition, founded in 1998, is open to undergraduate students who own and operate their own business while pursuing their college studies.
Awards are presented to recognize exceptional entrepreneurial skill and creativity among enterprising students. In addition to publicity and recognition, there are cash prizes for the top winners. The final awards are presented at a ceremony at Fairleigh Dickinson’s College at Florham.
James C. Barrood, director of the Institute, said, “It is important for schools and society to encourage and recognize entrepreneurial students who pursue business ventures because it is these innovative small and growing businesses that are generally responsible for much of the job creation nationwide.”
Each year, the judges need to consider a wide variety of aspects related to each student’s business. These criteria include: the student’s entrepreneurial spirit, obstacles the student overcame, the success of the business measured in financial success and market share, the student’s concern for quality and customer service and the estimated potential for the future success of the respective business.
The deadline for applications is April 2, 2010. This program is affiliated with the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards competition presented by Mercedes-Benz Financial and produced by Entrepreneurs’ Organization. The total prize package for the 2010 GSEA is over $150,000 in cash and business products and services donated by Entrepreneurs’ Organization members. Additional prize money is being awarded for New Jersey students. State sponsors include the Edison Venture Fund and the Silberman College of Business.
