Thomas P. Mac Mahon Speaks to Business Students

Trustee Thomas P.Mac Mahon, Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Laboratory Corporation of America® Holdings spoke to business students, engaged them in discussion and answered their questions. Mac Mahon's presentation focused on the potential and the opportunity to be found in the healthcare industry and spoke of his own experiences in the field. Student questions focused on career options and interest in Mac Mahon’s personal and professional choices.

Tom Mac Mahon has been LabCorp’s Chief Executive Officer since January 1997 and Chairman since April 28, 1996. LabCorp is one of the world’s largest clinical laboratories, with revenues of approximately $3.3 billion and 24,000 employees. LabCorp is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “LH”. Forbes Magazine, in its May 2004 and 2005 issues, recognized LabCorp as one of the best performing companies in the last five years, ranking in the top 20 in America.

Mr. Mac Mahon has had a long and diverse association with businesses in clinical laboratory testing and diagnostic technology, and played a pioneering role in commercializing the use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology. PCR is the Nobel Prize-winning technology that has enabled the rapid growth of molecular diagnostic testing for infectious disease, genetics and oncology, and is now widely used in genomics and pharmacogenomics.

Prior to his appointment as LabCorp’s Chief Executive Officer in 1997, Mr. Mac Mahon was Senior Vice President of Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. from 1993 to January 1997 and President of Roche Diagnostics Group and a member of the Executive Committee of Hoffmann-La Roche from 1988 to December 1996. At Hoffmann-La Roche he had been responsible since 1988 for the management of all United States operations of the diagnostic business. As a member of the Executive Committee of Hoffmann-La Roche Inc., his responsibilities included oversight of Roche Biomedical Laboratories (one of LabCorp’s predecessor companies), then a subsidiary of HLR Holdings Inc., from 1988 to 1995. Hoffmann-La Roche, Roche Diagnostics Group, and HLR Holdings Inc. are indirect wholly owned subsidiaries of Roche Holdings Ltd, an international health care concern based in Basel, Switzerland.

In addition to his responsibilities at LabCorp, Mr. Mac Mahon is also a member of the Express Scripts Board of Directors. He is also currently serving as Chairman of the American Clinical Laboratory Association.

Mr. Mac Mahon holds a BS in Marketing from St. Peter’s College and a MBA in Marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson.
