Award-Winning Tian Kong Choir To Appear In Concert at FDU in March
The Office of Global Learning (OGL) is pleased to announce that Fairleigh Dickinson University’s College at Florham will host the famous Tian Kong Choir of HuaZhong Normal University (HZNU), China on Sunday, March 13 at 4 p.m. in the Dreyfuss Theater. The public is invited to attend this free concert. No reservations are necessary.
Originally invited to the United States by the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) to attend an international choir competition in Chicago, FDU’s Office of Global Learning invited them to perform at FDU as well.
The Tian Kong Choir, composed of students and faculty members of Music College of HZNU, has contributed many innovations in modernizing the art of choir performance. “Instead of confining itself to performances in the traditional style, the chorus emphasizes the full play of the female choral voice in order to evoke profound emotions and integrate pure, sweet, free and natural sounds with a natural simplicity,” says FDU Professor Zhaobo Wang, the concert organizer.
Tian Kong Choir is one of the most famous university choir troupes in China. The Choir won two silver awards for unaccompanied women’s chorus in “The Third Olympic Chorus Competition” in 2004, the first prize among professional groups in the “Art Exhibition Performance of National Undergraduate Students” competition in 2005, a silver medal at the “Gold Bell Award Competition” in 2007, and a silver medal from China Central TV’s (CCTV) 13th National Youth Chorus Competition in 2008.
Along with Prof. Wang, this concert involves FDU’s Chinese Students Friendship Association, with the co-sponsorship of FDU’s International Admissions Office, FDU’s International Student Services Office, the Florham Campus Dean of Students and The New Jersey Chinese Huaxia Choir, who will serve as hosts.
