Opera at Florham Presents Tribute to Tenor Eugenio Fernandi
Madison, NJ (March 1, 2012) –– The Opera at Florham presents acclaimed tenor Luigi Boccia accompanied by pianist Danielle Orlando in the First Eugenio Fernandi Solo Recital Series on March 25, 2012 in elegant Lenfell Hall in the College at Florham of Fairleigh Dickinson University. The show will begin at 3 p.m. with the reception with the artists to follow at 5 p.m.
The venue, Lenfell Hall located in Hennessy Hall (The Mansion), was the drawing room of the Twombly family when they lived in the 100-room mansion.
This fundraiser is a tribute to New Jersey resident and internationally renowned Met tenor Eugenio Fernandi and will feature video tribute in memorial to this great Italian tenor. All proceeds will go to the Opera at Florham’s 2012 production of Donizett’s L’Elisir d’Amore. Boccia and Orlando will be presenting arias, art songs, and Neapolitan songs by the greatest Italian operatic and non-operatic composers such as Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Leoncavallo, Tosti, and Tirindelli.
Boccia, a second-year Resident Artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) in Philadelphia, returns to the Opera at Florham for his third appearance. After winning First Prize in the 2011 Violetta DuPont Vocal Competition, Boccia performed the role of Alfredo in La Traviata in the Opera at Florham’s production. This past October, he gained international notice for his performance at Ireland’s prestigious Wexford Music Festival, being declared, “the festival’s star discovery” by the Opera News. Boccia, who has performed extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe, adds three challenging new roles to his repertoire this year: Count Almaviva in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Nemorino in the AVA production of Donizetti’s L’Elisir D’Amore, and Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor with the Opera Theater of Connecticut. Boccia will return to Opera at Florham June this year to sing Nemorino in L'Elisir D' Amore.
Danielle Orlando, who collaborated with Luciano Pavarotti as accompanist, judge, and artistic coordinator for all of the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competitions at The Opera Company of Philadelphia, will accompany on piano. She currently is both the Principal Opera Coach of The Curtis Institute of Music and a Master Coach for the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. For many years, Orlando was the Artistic Administrator and Head of Music Staff for the Opera Company of Philadelphia, and she has served on the music staffs of numerous opera companies, festivals and young artist programs around the globe. These include the Metropolitan Opera, Washington National Opera, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, and many others.
The city of Valperga, Italy will dedicate the city’s theater and museum in Fernandi’s name on March 31, 2012. Fernandi’s wife, Gloria who serves on the Opera at Florham Board of Directors, has donated a large oil painting of Fernandi to the museum, and some of her family members will be in attendance for the dedication.
