Service learning class to host food tasting event for Dream Center Uganda
Madison, NJ (November 14, 2013) – Business students at FDU’s College at Florham will be hosting a special food tasting on November 21, 2013 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. featuring cuisine from local restaurants to raise money for Dream Center Uganda.
Each year, students in Farias’ Service Learning Management class choose a charity to help and then develop a large-scale community service project to benefit the charity. The 19 students in this year’s class have set their goal to raise $5,000 dollars toward the cause of helping former child soldiers in Uganda finish their education.
“Being far from Uganda, our class understands we live in a global community, and share a responsibility to uplift each other,” says management major and senior, Rocco Fiore. “We chose to align ourselves with the Dream Center in Uganda. The Dream Center aligns with our passion to see meaningful development. By holding this food tasting we hope to bring awareness to the lack that third world countries are facing and the resources we have to help them.”
Local restaurants, including The Taco Truck, The Thirsty Turtle, Raul’s Empanadas, and D. Zizza’s Bakery & Deli have donated food as well as raffle prizes for the event. The event will be held in the Student Center Mall.
Tickets for this event can be purchased at the door. The cost will be $10, and the ticket will include admission to the event as well as entrance to the raffle. FDU is located at 285 Madison Avenue, Madison, NJ 07940.
Dream Center Uganda is a project that is funded by the non-profit organization Touch The World, which raises money to send Ugandan children (former child soldiers) to school.
