New Support Groups Forming
New Adult Support Groups Offered at Fairleigh Dickinson University
Teaneck, NJ (January, 2001) óBeginning in January, a new Menís Cancer Support Group, a new Womenís Support Group, and a new Parent Divorce Support Group are being offered by Fairleigh Dickinson Universityís Center for Psychological Services.
New Menís Cancer Support Group. There are very few support groups for men suffering from all forms of cancer. The Center recognizes that men need support when faced with the challenges and uncertainty that goes along with any illness. Spouses/partners are encouraged to attend.
The New Womenís Support Group offers a nurturing environment for women to come together and discuss issues such as friendships, relationships, careers, loss, family matters and wellness/health. The group will also focus on problem solving, assertiveness, and overall self-improvement.
New Parent Divorce Support Group is for parents who are in the process of separation or divorce, and focuses on how to deal with the aftermath of a divorce. The group will address how to cope with the "EX," adjusting to new family routines, residential arrangements, creating new parent and child relationships, child adjustment at home and school, dealing with loss, and moving on to new relationships and interests.
All services are strictly confidential. Screenings for possible participants for the three support groups begin January 8, 2001. Each group will contain only 10-12 adults. The sessions will begin in February and will be on-going. There will be a small fee of $20 for each screening. Fees for the new adult support groups are on a sliding scale basis. Interested participants should call (201) 692-2645 or e-mail: Reddy@alpha.fdu.edu.
