New York Piano Society Offers New Jersey Auditions on March 15
Madison, NJ (March 2, 2009) — The New York Piano Society will hold auditions in New Jersey on March 15, and has scheduled a series of concerts in collaboration with Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey this year.
The Society seeks accomplished performers whose primary professions lie outside the field of music performance, but whose artistic value is apparent. The Society also encourages young instrumentalists to audition for NYPS' guest performances.
The New Jersey auditions will be held on Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m. in Lenfell Hall, Hennessy Hall, on Fairleigh Dickinson University’s College at Florham, 285 Madison Avenue, Madison, NJ. There is a $100 Society membership fee at the time of the audition. Depending on the performance readiness of the pianists, members may perform in one or two concerts and participate in all Society events during the year.
The New York Piano Society, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 2005 by pianist Elena Leonova. “We provide a nourishing environment for amateur performers through recitals, special events with concert artists, workshops and social events. This is a service that provides opportunities for public performance and guidance if the auditioner is not performance ready,” says Leonova.
Elena Leonova emigrated from the Soviet Union, where she graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. A first-prize winner in several American piano competitions, she has appeared in recitals and as soloist with orchestras at Lincoln Center, Kaufman Hall of the 92nd Street Y and Carnegie Recital Hall.
Leonova is currently on the faculty of Mannes College of Music. Her past teaching credits include positions at the New England Conservatory, SUNY Purchase and Rowan University in New Jersey. She has served on the juries of numerous international piano competitions.
