Opera at Florham Welcomes Spring With Cabaret on March 21
Madison, NJ – February 24, 2009 – Opera at Florham presents an evening of music from operatic masters at its spring cabaret, “Sing Like a Bird,” to be held in Hennessy Hall, (The Mansion), on Fairleigh Dickinson University’s College at Florham, 285 Madison Avenue, in Madison, N.J. The program begins at 8 p.m.
In addition, local opera aficionado Robert Butts will regale the crowd with his presentation, “Bel Canto and Musico Dramatico: Two Approaches to Opera Composition and Performance.”
Among the opera selections that soprano Maria Alu and tenor Steven Snow will offer are “Libiano” from “La Traviata,” “La Fleur” from “Carmen,” “Nessun Dorma” from “Turandot,” and selections from “Most Happy Fella” and “West Side Story.”
Maria Alu’s 2008 season included appearances with the Bronx Opera, the Opera San Jose and The Princeton Festival. Her 2009 season will include debuts with West Bay Opera, the Taconic opera and the Empire opera companies, as well as concerts with Annapolis Opera and Schola Cantorum on Hudson.
Tenor Steven Snow appeared with the Baroque Society of New Jersey, singing Mime in Wagner’s “Siegfried” last month. He also sang Macduff in Verdi’s “Macbeth” with Amici Opera during the year, as well as Turiddu in “Cavalleria Rusticana” and the title role in “Don Carlo” and Edgardo in “Lucia di Lammermoor.” In summer of 2008 he appeared in Ridge Light Opera’s production of HMS Pinafore.
Patrons may bring their tailgate menus at 7 p.m.; groups of ten may reserve a table. Light refreshments will be provided.
