“Travel Journal: Italy, France and Alaska” Photographic Presentation at Fairleigh Dickinson University
TEANECK, NJ (February 13, 2007) – Joel Schilling, an award- winning Bergen County photographer, will present images from his travels to Italy, France and Alaska in a slide presentation in the Weiner library auditorium on Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Metropolitan Campus at 2 p.m. on February 25, 2007. The public is invited to attend and there is no charge.
“Italy is one of my favorite places to photograph,” Schilling explained. Photos of Italian people, the Ligurian Sea, vineyards, olive groves and parks in Italy will be shown.
In addition, Schilling will share slides from the villages and the countryside of Provence, a region of southeastern France, located on the Mediterranean Sea adjacent to the Italian border. The final group of images showcases the diverse flora and fauna of Denali, Katmai and Glacier Bay National Parks in Alaska.
Schilling, a dentist by profession, started taking photographs when he received a hand-me-down Kodak camera as a child. In college he converted a linen closet into a darkroom and washed the resulting black-and-white prints in the bathtub. Since traveling to the Canadian Rockies in the early 90s, he has been especially interested in landscape and travel photography.
Schilling employs alternative photographic techniques when taking his photos such as platinum printing and emulsion lifts with Polaroid film and SX-70 manipulations.
