SAT Preparation Course Available in July and August
Teaneck, N.J. (June 23, 2009)—“Focused Thinking™ on the SAT,” a summer course designed to develop skills for making the most of ones thinking abilities on the SAT, at school and beyond, will be offered on both FDU campuses in New Jersey in July and August.
The program is designed to teach the skill of refocusing – cutting through exam “static” by directing thinking to the right issue at each step of each SAT question. Actual SAT items will be used in skill-training sessions; thinking-aloud methods will help to diagnose weaknesses in the approach to answering questions on the spot. This top-notch training for SAT will help develop reading and reasoning skills for college and for life. Subjects to be discussed include focusing, self-monitoring, math review and math problem solving, critical reading, sentence concepts and concise exposition in writing.
The course delivers the same cutting-edge techniques that have been successfully presented to corporate and educational clients, but optimized for top SAT performance. It enables students to stay on track to the correct answers and to jumpstart thinking when it becomes overloaded or wandering. The T.I.P.S. (Training by Interactive Problem solving) method is much like athletic coaching for the mind – getting help at the moment it is needed.
Instructor Lee Pierson is director of FDU’s Thinking Skills Institute. He holds a PhD in cognitive psychology from Cornell University and conducts Focused Thinking™ and test preparation seminars for a variety of educational and corporate clients in the United States and Canada.
The course will be offered on Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Metropolitan Campus, Teaneck, N.J., in ten 3-hour sessions, on Mondays and Wednesdays, July 20, 22, 27 and 29, and August 3, 5,10, 12, 17, and 19, from 1-4 p.m.
The program will be offered at FDU’s College at Florham, in Madison, N.J. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-4 p.m. on July 21, 23, 28, 30 and August 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, and 20. The course fee is $520, including registration and SAT textbooks.
The program is offered by FDU’s Office of Continuing Education and advance registration is required. For more information, call FDU’s Office of Continuing Education, 1-800-338-3887 or 201-692-6500.
