FDU Hosts Superstorm Sandy Critical Incident Debriefing on June 12
Hear Lessons Learned in Disaster Response and Recovery from NY and NJ First Responders
Teaneck, NJ (May 16, 2013) — Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Petrocelli College of Continuing Studies will present a one-day symposium about post disaster response, entitled Superstorm Sandy Critical Incident Debriefing: Lessons Learned in Disaster Response and Recovery. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 from 8 a.m-5 p.m. at FDU’s Metropolitan Campus in Wilson Auditorium.
This one-day symposium will bring together law-enforcement, emergency-management, public-utilities professionals, health care and other corporate partners. The program will include lectures, panel discussions, and open forums with representatives from the New Jersey State Police, New Jersey Office of Emergency Management, New Jersey National Guard, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and various public utilities among others.
"The seminar will facilitate a multidisciplinary review of the organizational response to Sandy. There are lessons to be learned from the mitigation, preparedness and response to this historic storm,” says Assistant Professor Joseph Devine. “The 9/11 Commission Report enumerated the strengths and weaknesses of the response to the attacks of September 11th. Subsequently, the response to Hurricane Katrina provided additional lessons for crisis management. Each crisis, natural or manmade provides the opportunity to learn, to adapt and to improve. We intend to start this dialogue and analysis at FDU on June 12th 2013." continues Devine.
Registration is required for this event. The fee for this event will be $25 in advance, $35 at the door, and includes both a continental breakfast and lunch. A limited amount of free slots will be available to the FDU community and veterans.
