Rwandan Ambassador to Speak at Metropolitan Campus

TEANECK, NJ (February 22, 2010) —“Rwanda — From Tragedy to Success,” is the topic that H.E. Ambassador Eugène-Richard Gasana, permanent representative of Rwanda to the United Nations, will present on March 10, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at FDU’s Metropolitan Campus, Teaneck, N.J. as part of FDU’s United Nations Pathways Ambassador Forum program.

The format of this U.N. Pathways Ambassador Forum is a discussion between Ambassador Ahmad Kamal of the Ambassador’s Club at the U.N. and Gasana.

Gasana was appointed permanent representative of Rwanda to the U.N. in 2009. Until his appointment to the U.N., Gasana was the ambassador to Germany from 2004 to 2009, with accreditation also to Austria, Bulgaria, Russian Federation, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, and Romania.  In 2005, Gasana was appointed alternate governor ad hoc at the 40th Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank. He was chairman of the board of ARTEL Telecommunications in Rwanda in 2002.

From 2001 to 2002, Gasana was permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva and other international organizations such as the World Trade Organization, World Intellectual Property Organization and the International Telecommunication Union. He served as first counsellor in Rwanda’s Embassy in Germany from 1998 to 2000, and was promoted to minister counsellor in December 2000 after serving as chargé d’affaires from 1994 to 1995. He held the same position in Berne, Switzerland, from 1995 to 1997.

Fairleigh Dickinson’s Office of Global Learning, in collaboration with the Ambassadors’ Club at the United Nations, presents this United Nations Pathways Ambassador Forum.

The opportunity to hear the ambassador and join the audience question-and-answer session is free and open to the public. Light refreshments are available at 6 p.m. and the lecture will begin at 6:30. The question-and-answer session will follow the discussion between Ambassador Ahmad Kamal of the Ambassador’s Club at the U.N. and H.E. Ambassador Gasana and will end at 8:00. The program will be held in the Multipurpose Room in the Student Union Building. Fairleigh Dickinson is located at 1000 River Road, Teaneck, N.J.
