Ninth Annual Hackensack River Symposium
April 20, 2001 at Fairleigh Dickinson UniversityTeaneck, NJ (March 26, 2001)—On Friday, April 20, Fairleigh Dickinson University will host the Ninth Annual Hackensack River Symposium. The event is sponsored through Professor Edward J. Catanzaro of FDU’s School of Natural Sciences and will run from 9:20 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The morning program opens with Hackensack Riverkeeper, Captain Bill Sheehan’s presentation of "The River and Its People," followed by Albert Greco, Health Officer and Director of Human Services, Clifton, NJ, discussing the role of the local Public Health Authority in Watershed Management.
Concluding the morning session, Danielle Donkersloot, NJDEP Division of Watershed Management, Northeast Bureau, will speak on "Watershed Management and the Importance of Education and Outreach."
During the afternoon session, Christine Hirt and Emma Melvin, NJ Watershed Ambassadors for Watershed Management Area #5 will discuss two environmental programs – RATS (River Assessment Teams) and BATS (Biological Assessment Teams) and explain how volunteers can become involved.
The final speaker of the day is Mark Beck, of SWAN, who will address the question of Land Preservation in the Upper Hackensack River Watershed.
