Robert J. Pures Joins Fairleigh Dickinson University Board of TrusteesTEANECK, N.J. (Oct. 8, 2009) — Robert J. Pures, an executive with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, has been elected to the FDU Board of Trustees for a three-year term.
“We are delighted to welcome Bob Pures to the Board of Trustees,” said FDU President J. Michael Adams. “As someone who is known for his impeccable integrity and conscientiousness as well as his financial expertise, Bob will be a great asset to the board.”
Pures is senior vice president-administration, chief financial officer and treasurer of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. Pures joined the company in 1985, after six years as vice president of finance for the U.S. Courier Division of Purolator Courier Corp., and was appointed to his present position in 1995. Newark-based Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey is the largest health insurer in New Jersey, covering more than 3.6 million members, with annual premiums of $8 billion.
Pures, who served four years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, also worked in public accounting for Andersen LLP and GAF Corp.
A certified public accountant, Pures is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the New Jersey Society of CPAs. He is a director of the New Jersey Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute, and a member of the board of trustees of Cancer Care of New Jersey and of the FDU Silberman College Board of Advisors.
Pures won a Pinnacle Award, the highest award that FDU bestows upon its alumni, in 2008. He has a B.S. degree in accounting (1967) from Fairleigh Dickinson’s College at Florham and an MBA from Boston College.
Pures and his wife, Patricia, live in River Vale, N.J.
