“Holiday Gala” Concert of Classical Piano Music at Fairleigh Dickinson University
Madison, NJ (November 20, 2008) - “Holiday Gala,” a free concert of classical piano music on Sunday, December 14, 2 p.m. will feature works by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Schumann, Rimsky- Korsakoff and Ravel. The concert will be held in FDU’s Hennessy Hall (The Mansion), College at Florham, 285 Madison Avenue, Madison, NJ.
Sponsored by Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Becton College of Arts and Sciences and The New York Piano Society, the concert will feature performers who are members of the New York Piano Society — outstanding amateur performers who have established careers in fields other than music.
“Holiday Gala” will feature a fashion designer, a real estate developer, and a financial analyst, as well as prominent physicians, scientists and a surprise guest performance by a member of Fairleigh Dickinson's community. For some performers, this event will mark their debut in this series and others will be audience favorites from past concerts. At a reception following the concert, the audience will have the opportunity to meet the performers.
The New York Piano Society, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to discovering and nurturing talented performers whose primary profession is not the field of music performance. The society brings together people of varying vocations for a shared experience founded on their love of the piano and classical music. According to pianist Elena Leonova, the founder and the artistic director of the society, the objective of the society is to “establish a venue to enable amateurs to perform publicly.”
A graduate of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Leonova has been critically acclaimed by the major press and has been the first prizewinner in several American piano competitions. She has appeared in recitals and as a soloist with orchestras throughout the U.S. and abroad. Leonova is a graduate of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and currently on the faculty of Mannes College of Music.
