Monninger of Fair Haven, NJ, was inducted into The Pinnacle, the highest award the University can bestow on its alumni. Pinnacle recipients are chosen on the basis of success or distinction in their chosen fields; significant contributions to society and humanity through public or humanitarian service; and outstanding service to the University, or reflection of the unique character of Fairleigh Dickinson in their lives.
Monninger is president and owner of Manhattan Jeep Chrysler Dodge in New York City and Bergen County Dodge in Ramsey, N.J. Both are certified Daimler Chrysler Five Star dealerships.
With a strong work ethic and keen sense of determination, Monninger has become one of the most highly respected auto dealers in the country. For the past 13 years, he has been a member of the Pacesetters Club, Daimler Chrysler's recognition of the top 100 dealers in the USA. His companies have also consistently been awarded "Five Star Status,” a rating that is only given to those dealerships that have achieved the highest quality consumer satisfaction.
He supports many different charities and organizations, including Coastal Habitat for Humanity, Riverview Hospital, Special People United to Ride, Sandy Hook Lighthouse and the American Cancer Society. In 2004, he and his wife Joan made a major contribution toward the renovation and reconstruction of the library at FDU’s College at Florham. In recognition of their generosity, the library will bear their names.
Monninger earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from FDU in 1965. He and his wife have four children and eight grandchildren.
In presenting the award, University President J. Michael Adams said, “As an entrepreneur, husband, father and friend, you embody the ideals we all strive for; your University takes great pride in honoring you with induction into The Pinnacle.”
