An Evening with Maya Angelou:
A Celebration of Mothers, Daughters, and the Sisterhood of Women
Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 7pm at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Metropolitan Campus
Teaneck, NJ (April 14, 2010) Acclaimed as one of the great voices of contemporary literature and as a remarkable Renaissance woman, Maya Angelou will appear at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, in the Rothman Center on Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Metropolitan Campus.
The doors will open at 5pm. Guests should plan to arrive early to enjoy a pre-event gathering featuring organizations, programs, and businesses for women in Bergen County
Considered one of our national treasures, Angelou is an author, poet, historian, songwriter, playwright, dancer, stage and screen producer, director, performer, singer, and civil rights activist. She authored 12 best-selling books and has also produced several volumes of poetry.
In her appearances, Angelou presents a compelling vision of grace. She is known as a passionate speaker, mesmerizing audiences with her vigor and the beauty of her lyrics, swaying and singing as she recites. Angelou is the second poet in U.S. history awarded the honor of writing and reciting original work at the Presidential Inauguration, appearing at the first inauguration of President Bill Clinton.
Admission to "An Evening with Maya Angelou" is free for Fairleigh Dickinson University students, $20 for the University staff, faculty, administration and alumni, and $100 for the general public (allows entrance for two guests.)
