Madison, NJ (April 24, 2001) Thomas Mac Mahon, chairman, president and CEO of LabCorp, one of the world’s largest clinical laboratories, was inducted into The Pinnacle, the highest award Fairleigh Dickinson University bestows on its alumni.
In a ceremony at the University on April 20, Mac Mahon, who earned his MBA at Fairleigh Dickinson’s Rutherford campus, was honored for his dedication and proven excellence in rising to the top of his profession.
In 1969, Mac Mahon began his career with Roche Bio-Medical Laboratories as a marketing research analyst. By 1988, he was responsible for all the U.S. diagnostic operations of Roche serving, in positions such as senior vice president of Hoffman-La Roche, president of Roche Diagnostics Group and a member of Roche’s Worldwide Diagnostic executive committee. Through this affiliation with the diagnostic group, MacMahon had international operational responsibility for its polymer, chain-reaction technology, which has broad application for new clinical laboratory tests.
He was appointed chair, president and chief executive office of LabCorp in 1996, after serving as vice chair since the company was formed in the 1995 merger of Roche Bio-medical Laboratories and National Health Laboratories.
A resident of Morris Plains, NJ, Mac Mahon has served on numerous professional and service-oriented boards and committees. He was a major donor to Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Summer Enrichment Program, which is dedicated to the support of under-prepared, inner-city youth.
His citation at the ceremonies concluded with "For exemplifying ideals we all aspire to and with everlasting admiration of your wide range of achievements, Fairleigh Dickinson today takes you to the summit of its recognition and congratulates you for reaching the Pinnacle."
