FDU Freshman Wins LISTA Junior Technology Achievement Award
TEANECK, N.J. (Dec. 15, 2009) ó Fairleigh Dickinson University student Anthony Saire, a computer science major from Queens, N.Y., has won a Junior Technology Achievement Award from LISTA (Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association).
The award is given to Latino college freshmen who excel in community service and leadership, demonstrate academic ability and are majoring in a technical field. Gonzalo Perez, school coordinator for FDUís Gildart Haase School of Computer Sciences and Engineering, presented the award at LISTAís annual National Latino Technology Achiever awards in New York City on Dec. 8.
Saire, a 2009 graduate of Patersonís Rosa L. Parks School of Fine and Performing Arts and a talented artist, became interested in computers and creating computer programs in high school. He attended a summer program for high school students at Fairleigh Dickinson and participated in FDUís Technology Enrichment and Outreach Program. Saire was also a member of the National Honor Society and his schoolís chess club.
Saire said he intends to minor in business and perhaps enroll in an MBA program toward his goal of becoming a business owner.
Award winners were presented with a computer laptop and $500 at the New York City ceremony.
