New "Politics on the PublicMind" Afternoon Spring Series

Madison, NJ - (February 4, 2010) - “Politics on the PublicMind” sponsors a new spring series entitled, “Law and Society,” from February 9 to April 19, 2010 on Fairleigh Dickinson University’s College at Florham, 285 Madison Avenue, Madison, N.J. The public is invited to these Monday afternoon seminars, scheduled from 2 - 3:30 p.m. in the Library Orangerie.

The first session on February 9 features David Rosen, who will discuss “Child Soldiers and International Law.”  Dr. Rosen, author of “Armies of the Young: Child Soldiers in War and Terrorism” is professor of anthropology and law at FDU.

On February 15, Roger Koppl, Director of the Institute for Forensic Science Administration and professor of economics and finance at FDU, will present “Forensic Science and Criminal Law.” Koppl, author of “Big Players and the Economic Theory of Expectations” has contributed articles for Forbes and Slate Magazines, and op ed pieces for many local newspapers.

On February 22, Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi presents “The Prosecutor’s Office in the 21st Century. “

The March schedule includes three topics relating to law and the media.  On March 1, Don Coburn, a former trial and appellate judge in the NJ Court System will address “Judicial Selection and Judicial Activism.”

On March 8, Lucy Dalglish, Executive Director of “The Reporter’s Committee for Freedom of the Press” will discuss “Shield Laws and the Press.”

On March 22, Bruce Baron, attorney and legal commentator for FOX News, MSNBC, CNN and Court TV, offers “The Media’s Influence on Law in the 21st Century.”

On March 29, Tom Weisert, Chief of Staff for Jay Webber, State Chairman of the New Jersey Republican Party, addresses “The New Jersey Supreme Court: New Directions in Policy and Personnel.”

FDU’s PublicMind polling institute and the College at Florham Library sponsors these “Politics on the PublicMind” seminars. A donation of $85 to the “Friends of the Library” to help cover the cost of the seminars would be gratefully accepted. Seating is limited and reservations are necessary. The discussions are free to all students, faculty, staff and alumni.
