Kuwait Ambassador to Speak at Fairleigh Dickinson University

“Middle East in Transition” Is Topic

Madison, NJ (February 14, 2003) Kuwait’s ambassador to the United Nations is scheduled to speak on “The Middle East in Transition” at Fairleigh Dickinson University on March 12, 2003.

Ambassador Mohammad Abdulla Abulhasan has been Kuwait’s permanent representative to the United Nations since 1981. With nearly 40 years of diplomatic experience—including such positions as Ambassador to the Republic of Yugoslavia, Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, and first secretary to Kuwait’s embassy in Tehran, Iran—he has had a unique window on Kuwait’s role in the Middle East and the world.

Ambassador Abulhasan was vice president of the U.N. General Assembly for the 50th session (1995), 47th session (1992), 44th session (1989) and 39th session (1984). He also represented Kuwait at international conferences that include the Summits of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries in South Africa, Colombia, Indonesia, Yugoslavia, Zimbabwe, and India; the Summit of the Child in New York; the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro; and the Social Summit in Copenhagen. Since 1982, he has been chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Islamic Cultural Center of New York. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Cairo.

The Kuwait ambassador’s speech is part of Fairleigh Dickinson’s spring 2003 UN Pathways Lecture Series, presented by the Ambassador’s Club at the United Nations. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7:00 p.m. It will be held in Lenfell Hall at Fairleigh Dickinson’s College at Florham in Madison, N.J. For further information, call 201-692-7362.

Due to the uncertainty in the Middle East, this presentation is subject to change. For updated information, please call 973 443-8954.
