Co-Founder of Keurig to Speak at Rothman Institute’s Recognition Reception
MADISON, NJ (September 13, 2012)—The tenth annual Recognition Reception hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurship will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 6 p.m. in Lenfell Hall in Hennessey Hall at the College at Florham. This yearly event recognizes the achievements of Institute faculty members and of FDU entrepreneurship students. Dick Sweeney, co-founder of Keurig and FDU alumnus, will deliver the keynote address.
Sweeney co-founded Keurig in 1993 and joined Keurig full time as vice president of engineering in 1996. At Keurig his responsibilities include brewer engineering and service, quality control, and contract manufacturing. Through 2003, he was also responsible for packaging patents. Sweeney brought 25 years of experience in manufacturing, product development and consulting for industrial and consumer appliances, including espresso machines with him to Keurig.
Prior to Keurig, Sweeney was vice president of operations for V-M Industries, a consumer appliances manufacturer and importer. Then he became vice president of manufacturing for Conrad-Hanovia, a manufacturer of scientific and UV lighting.
A special component of the evening will be the attendance of many of FDU’s Veterans Launching Ventures (VLV) students, alumni, mentors and instructors. The VLV program is in its sixth cohort, and Sweeney, also a U.S. veteran, will be sharing his best practices with the FDU community.
Part of the Silberman College of Business since 1989, the mission of the Rothman Institute for Entrepreneurship is to teach and support entrepreneurship and innovation in the academic, business and nonprofit communities. An outstanding entrepreneurship curriculum taught by an excellent faculty has helped make the academic program among the top 20 in the nation (as ranked by the Princeton Review).
Admission to this event is free and open to the public. Registration is required by Sunday, September 16 and seating is limited. Attire is business casual.
