Jazz Concert at Fairleigh Dickinson
Teaneck, N. (March 26, 2001)—Jazz enthusiasts of all ages will welcome the return to Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday, April 24 of the John Tank Group, a quartet of professional musicians popular on the New York City jazz scene. In a free concert, open to the general public, the program will contain jazz standards, modern jazz and original compositions.
Leader of the quartet, tenor saxophonist John Tank, has performed regularly in and around the metropolitan area since 1974 and has also given performances in Europe and Canada. He has recorded with Charles Mingus and performed with Sam Rivers, George Coleman and Kenny Wheeler.
Tank will be joined by pianist Michael Cochrane, who has played at numerous venues in New York City, including Carnegie Hall, the Village Vanguard, and Sweet Basil. He has toured extensively in more than 15 countries and performed and recorded with such jazz notables as Michael Brecker, Clark Terry, Valery Ponomorev and Sonny Fortune.
Drummer Jeff Hirshfield, one of the most versatile and accomplished drummers in jazz, has appeared on over 100 recording. He has worked with numerous jazz giants, as well as with many musicians on the cutting edge. His many credits include Totts Thielemans, Red Rodney/Ira Sullivan and Toshiko Aldyoshi/Lew Tabackin.
The fourth member of the group, talented bassist Calvin Hill, has played with McCoy Tyner, Pharaoh Sanders and Max Roach.
This free concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Edward Williams Hall, 150 Kotte Place, Hackensack, NJ. The auditorium is reached off Hackensack Avenue South and has ample free parking at the door. For more information, call (201) 692-7337.
