Intelligence-Led Policing Graduate Certificate for Law Enforcement Professionals Announced
MADISON, NJ (October 3, 2006) – Fairleigh Dickinson University has announced a new graduate certificate program in Intelligence-Led Policing. Classes will start on Saturday, October 21 and run for five consecutive Saturdays, through November 18. Classes will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m.
Intelligence-Led Policing links elements of intelligence operations to investigative and front-line delivery of services. These elements include strategic-planning, crime analysis, priority setting, accountability, risk management, and stakeholder involvement.
The certificate requirements consist of four courses. “Intelligence-Led Policing: Concepts, Practices, and Issues,” the first required course, serves as an introduction to the intelligence-led policing model. Collection and analysis of data will be discussed, leading to the determinations of essential actions to be taken. Case studies will be used to illustrate principles included in the course.
The second required course is designed for current or future senior level decision makers. “Strategic Planning for Intelligence-Led Policing,” emphasizes collaborations to achieve better goal-setting, problem-solving, and decision-making. The class will examine how best to use results of those collaborations to address crime, homeland security, quality of life, and environmental issues.
Students also select two electives from a list that includes courses in intelligence team management, intelligence analysis, tactical and operational management, principles of information and intelligence collection, fusion center operations and integration, and building strategic partnerships.”
Classes for this new graduate certificate will be offered on FDU’s Bergen County Campus, in Paramus (Paramus Life Safety Complex), in Buena Vista (New Jersey State Police Headquarters), in Totowa (New Jersey State Police Headquarters), and in Parsippany (Morris County Firefighters & Police Training Academy).
