Artist Florence Hurewitz to Display Retrospective: “Paintings and Drawings” at FDU

TEANECK, N.J. (November 6, 2009)— Paintings and drawings by Florence Hurewitz will be on display at the Edward Williams Gallery, on Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck, N.J. from Tuesday, December 1, 2009, to Friday, January 15, 2010.

Hurewitz’s retrospective exhibit, “Paintings and Drawings,” will feature pieces from her many decades of painting. Throughout her artistic career, her subject has always been the female figure. She says, “I find the figure endlessly exciting down to the last toenail and the dynamic perspective of a reclining figure is the challenge I love to explore.”

After graduating with a B.F.A. from Cooper Union School of Art and Architecture, Hurewitz worked as the assistant curator of the Cooper Union Museum and later on the faculty of both Bergen Community College and the Art Center of Northern New Jersey.

Hurewitz has received numerous awards for her artwork, including the Monmouth College Award for Oil Painting, two Medals of Honor from the National Association of Women Artists and the Jersey City Museum Medal for Oil Painting, Painters & Sculptors Society of N.J. She has had her artwork exhibited in over 50 exhibitions in locations all over New Jersey and the world. Exhibits include the New Jersey State Museum, Brigham Young University, Jerusalem, Israel, and Florence, Italy.

The Edwards Williams Gallery, located at 150 Kotte Place, Hackensack, is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
