"Holiday Tour" Chamber Concert
Free Concert at FDU"Holiday Tour" Chamber Music Concert Offers a Rich Musical Itinerary
Teaneck, NJ (February 12, 2001) — For a musical excursion to five countries, the public is invited to join the All Seasons Chamber Players on their "Holiday Tour." On Sunday, March 4 at 3 p.m., one of New Jersey’s most popular chamber music ensembles will present a free concert at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Edward Williams Hall.
This concert is one of the ensemble’s Fleet Community Concerts for 2000-2201.
A pair of dances by New England composer Arthur Foote opens the program and Spanish composer Joaquin Turina’s "Ciculo: Fantasy for Piano, Violin and Cello" follows. This work is built on the cycle of the day – moving from dawn to midday to dusk.
Austrian composer Franz Schubert is represented by a Rondo for piano four hands and England by Eugene Goossens Five Impressions of a Holiday for Flute, Cello and Piano. The five movements provide a theme for the entire program as they lead the listeners "In the Hills," "By the Rivers," at "The Water Wheel," in "The Village Church," and "At the Fair."
The musical tour culminates in Germany with Brahms’ masterpiece, the Quartet for Piano and Strings. This work, which was 20 years in preparation, had as its inspiration Brahms’ unhappy love for his mentor’s wife, Clara Schumann.
This concert is supported by Fleet Bank as well as by the New Jersey State Council of the Arts through grant funds administered by the Bergen County Department of Parks, Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs, the Frank & Lydia Bergen Foundation, Bell Atlantic Foundation, Puffin Foundation, Friends of All Seasons and others.
The All Seasons Chamber Players is now celebrating its 20th anniversary season. Members of the ensemble are active professional musicians who also perform as soloists and members of major area orchestras, Broadway shows and summer festivals. The concert at FDU features flutist Brenda Sakofsky, violinist Robert Lawrence, violist Joel rudin, cellist Ellen Zoe Hassman, and pianists Jean Strickholm and Steven Anderson.
