Astronaut and FDU Alumnus Greg Olsen to Visit FDU

MADISON, NJ (March 18, 2013)—Fairleigh Dickinson University invites, Greg Olsen, astronaut and FDU alumnus/ trustee to speak on Wednesday, March 27 at 3:30 p.m. at the College at Florham’s Lenfell Hall, Hennessy Hall. 

Olsen was the third private citizen to orbit the earth on the International Space Station (ISS). After five months of training he launched on a Russian Soyuz rocket TMA-7 in 2005 where he spent 10 days in space and orbited Earth more than 150 times. 

After an illustrious career as a research scientist and entrepreneur, Olsen now is president of GHO Ventures in Princeton, NJ where he manages investments. He also performs numerous speaking engagements to encourage students to consider careers in science and engineering.

Olsen received a BS in physics (1966), a BSEE and MS Physics (1968) from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Ph.D. in materials science from the University of Virginia.  From there he was awarded 12 patents, wrote more than 100 technical papers, co-authored several book chapters and has given numerous invited lectures to both technical and trade journal audiences.

Olsen’s presentation is sponsored by FDU’s Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF). The EOF is a university- and state-sponsored program created in 1969 to ensure meaningful access to higher education for economically and educationally disadvantaged students.
