FDU presents Government Contract Workshop for Small Businesses

Madison, NJ (October 25, 2010) —Fairleigh Dickinson University is partnering with the New Jersey Institute of Technology to offer a government contract workshop, “Contracting Opportunities for Small Businesses.” The workshop will be held on November 12, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Dickinson Hall on FDU’s Metropolitan Campus.

This course is designed for business owners who want to expand their marketing efforts beyond their current customer base and into government contracts. NJIT’s Defense Procurement Center (DPC) will help attendees market to government agencies such as the Department of Defense, schools, post offices, local municipalities, as well as large companies such as IBM and Lockheed Martin.

The program will cover various preference programs that have bidding opportunities set aside for certain categories of companies. The main category is Small Business, but there are several subcategories, including 8a, HUBZone, MBE/WBE, and Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business. Awareness of these categories allows small businesses to compete on a level playing field with larger companies and can give small businesses a marketing edge.

All workshop attendees will receive a listing of small business specialists at various agencies and large companies. These individuals are tasked with assisting small businesses and can thus help small business owners avoid the “cold call” to these agencies.
