NY Giants and FDU Sponsor Nov. 9 Benefit Dinner for Richard FritzkyTEANECK, N.J. (Oct. 13, 2009) — Members of the New York Giants Super Bowl championship teams will sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans at the second annual Richard Fritzky Benefit Sports Dinner on Monday, Nov. 9, at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
The dinner, sponsored by FDU and the New York Giants, will be from 6–9 p.m. at FDU’s Rothman Center on the Hackensack side of the Metropolitan Campus.
Many of the current and past Giants who participated at last year’s benefit are expected to attend, including Harry Carson, George Martin, O.J. Anderson, Chase Blackburn, Brandon Jacobs, Joe Morris, Odessa Turner and Perry Williams. The event will also feature silent and live auctions of Giants memorabilia, including an autographed Brandon Jacobs jersey and signed items by member of each of the three Giants Super Bowl-winning teams. Non-sports items will also be auctioned.
Richard Fritzky, father of 12 children and an adjunct professor at FDU for 30 years, contracted a rare form of meningitis in October 2005. Fritzky was hospitalized for more than a year, surviving kidney failure, 22 operations and the amputation of both legs and nine fingers. Fritzky still battles renal failure, but works at home teaching an online course for FDU and serving as editor of Meadowlands USA magazine. Proceeds from the benefit dinner will help pay his medical bills and family expenses.
FDU organized a 2006 benefit softball game between the members of the 1986 and 1991 Super Bowl Champion Giants and The King and His Court that raised more than $15,000 for the Friends of Rich Fritzky trust fund. A November 2008 benefit sports dinner raised $25,000.
Tickets to the 2009 dinner are $60 per person; a table of 10 may be purchased for $500. Checks should be made payable to “Friends of Rich Fritzky” and mailed by Nov. 2 to Denise Wisniewski, Fairleigh Dickinson University, 1000 River Road, H-DH1-02, Teaneck, NJ 07666.
