Opera at Florham Announces Finalists
Violetta DuPont Competition to Select Winners
Madison, NJ –April 28, 2005 – Aspiring opera finalists, chosen from applicants in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware, are vying for recognition, prestige and prizes in the Violetta DuPont Opera Competition on Saturday, April 30, on Fairleigh Dickinson University’s College at Florham Campus in Madison, N.J. The competition begins at 8 p.m. in Lenfell Hall, The Mansion. General admission to the competition is $25; $10 for students. For ticket reservations, call 973-443-8620.
Prestigious members of the opera community will serve as judges. The panel includes Metropolitan Opera stars Licia Albanese and Faith Esham, Paul Somers, critic and publisher of “Classical New Jersey,” and Alfred Hubay, having 60 years of Metropolitan Opera association and panelist of the “Opera Quiz” broadcast.
Previous winners of the Violetta DuPont Competition have launched their careers and appeared successfully with the Metropolitan Opera, the New Jersey State Opera and the New York City Opera, as well as opera companies throughout Europe.
In addition to sponsoring the yearly opera competition and cabaret evenings, Opera at Florham, a professional company in residence at Fairleigh Dickinson University, will present “Madama Butterfly,” a fully staged opera, at 3 p.m. on June 19.
