Camp Discovery Offers Summer Fun for Students in Grades 1 – 10
Madison, NJ (March 14, 2008) – Registration is now open for Camp Discovery, Fairleigh Dickinson University’s summer-fun day camp program for children entering grades one through seven. The camp includes a Leader in Training program for teens entering grades eight and nine, as well as a Teen Travel program for students entering grades seven to ten.
Camp Discovery features activities including science (chemistry, biology, physics, archeology, aerodynamics), arts and crafts (cartooning, drawing, painting, sculpting, puppetry), theater and sports in addition to field trips. Programs are offered for six weeks in three sessions, from June 30 through August 8 at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s College at Florham in Madison, N.J.
Field-trip destinations this year include Space Odyssey USA, the Bronx Zoo, the Museum of Natural History, Liberty Science Center and Medieval Times. Rounding out the summer trips is a visit to New York to see the Broadway production of “Mary Poppins.”
The Leader in Training program gives teens entering grades eight and nine the opportunity to learn valuable team-building experience and life skills. Each day, leaders in training will participate in recreational activities and two workshops on leadership skills while working with counselors to gain real-life leadership experience. Each session will also include three trips.
The Teen Travel program is available for 12 to 15-year-olds who are entering grades seven to ten in the fall. The program enables campers to explore the surrounding area with their peers. Campers will visit Camel Beach Waterpark, NBC Studios, the United Nations, U.S. Mint in Philadelphia, Hershey Park, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The program will run from Monday, August 11 – Friday, August 15.
Camp Discovery runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday-Friday, and extended care hours from 8-8:45 a.m. and 4-5:50 p.m. are included in camp fees. A late fee is charged for pickups after 5:50.
