Chinese Ambassador to Speak at College at Florham

MADISON, N.J. (October 28, 2009)— “China and Its Role in the World,” is the topic that H.E. Ambassador Liu Zhen-Min, deputy permanent representative of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations will present on November 18, 2009, at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s College at Florham, Madison, N.J.

Liu was appointed deputy permanent representative of the People’s Republic of China to the U.N. in 2006. At the time of his appointment, he was the director-general of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for his country. Except for two stints in the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations, Liu spent his whole career with the Department of Treaty and Law.  

Liu served as the second secretary and then the first secretary of the Permanent Mission of China to the U.N. Office at Geneva from 1992-1995. Prior to that, he served as the third secretary of the Permanent Mission of China to the U.N. from 1984-1988.

In the Department of Treaty and Law in China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he began as a staff member in 1982. After his first stint with the U.N., he returned to the department of Treaty and Law as the third secretary and later became the deputy division director. After his second stint at the U.N., he served as the first secretary during 1996 and then as a counselor in the Department of Treaty and Law until 1998. In 1998, he became the deputy director-general of the department, a position he held until 2003.

Fairleigh Dickinson’s Office of Global Learning, in collaboration with the Ambassadors’ Club at the United Nations, presents this United Nations Pathways Ambassador Forum.

The opportunity to hear the ambassador and join the audience question-and-answer session is free and open to the public. Light refreshments are available at 6 p.m. and the lecture will begin at 6:30. The question-and-answer session will follow the discussion between Ambassador Ahmad Kamal of the Ambassador’s Club at the U.N. and H.E. Ambassador Liu and will end at 8:00. The lecture will be held in Lenfell Hall, Hennessy Hall. Fairleigh Dickinson is located at 285 Madison Avenue, Madison, N.J.
