UN Guest Speaker to Address FDU’s College at Florham
Madison, N.J. (November 8, 2011) - Fairleigh Dickinson University is proud to welcome, Mr. Cheick Sidi Diarra, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States, to speak on “Unleashing Africa’s Potential” on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011 at 6 p.m. in Lenfell Hall, Hennessy Hall at FDU’s College at Florham.
Diarra has over 25 years of professional experience in international relations, law and development. He has been actively involved in furthering African integration efforts and the African development agenda at the international level. Diarra has served as one of the lead negotiators on these issues at the African Union summit since 1982. Multilateral diplomacy has been the major area of his long diplomatic career.
In Diarra’s decade-long experience working with the United Nations he acquired firsthand knowledge and experience in the intergovernmental process. His aim was to strengthen the role in economic and developmental matters within the United Nations.
He co-chaired on the Economic and Social Council that resulted in the adoption of the General Assembly resolution 61/16.
