Award-Winning Photographer Ara M. Chakarian, FPSA, NJFC to hold Exhibit and Presentation at Fairleigh Dickinson University
TEANECK, NJ (March 26, 2007) – A presentation on “Nova Scotia and Escalante National Monument”, will be shown by award- winning photographer Ara M. Chakarian, FPSA, NJFC in the Library Auditorium in Weiner Library on Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Metropolitan Campus at 2 p.m. on April 15, 2007.
The presentation by Chakarian will feature Escalante National Monument in Utah and the Canadian Province of Nova Scotia. “Escalante is a vast and challenging land which rewards the exploring visitor,” Chakarian said. The presentation introduces the exhibit of his photographs, which will run from April 15 - May 19, on the second floor of the library.
Chakarian feels showing photographs from a desolate landscape like Escalante and then transitioning into the maritime province of Nova Scotia provides some contrast to the presentation. “We have visited Nova Scotia five times and it is a land which is very scenic and has a long history,” he commented.
Chakarian is a member of the Photographic Society of America (PSA). In PSA, he is a member of the Cosmopolitan Chapter and the Honors committee, of which he has been a member for four years and has served as Chairman. He is a lifetime member of the Ridgewood Camera Club and has been the Chairman of the club’s International Exhibition of Photography since its inception in 1982.
Chakarian received the New Jersey Federation Citation from the New Jersey Federation of Camera Clubs in 1992. It is the highest individual honor bestowed by the Federation and is given each year to individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of the art and science of photography in the State of New Jersey. Most recently he was awarded a Fellowship in PSA in September of 2006.
