“Pitch To Me” Says Larry Meistrich, Producer Of “Sling Blade”

Boot Camp for Aspiring Filmmakers

Teaneck, NJ (March 23, 2006) — Do you have a great idea for a screenplay, but no idea how to execute it? Are you curious about the process of filmmaking? How difficult is it to make a movie, from initial concept to final cut? And how do you break into the industry?

“At our Aspiring Filmmakers Boot Camp attendees can pitch their movie ideas and talents to me and other top working film pros. This is unprecedented access.” says Larry Meistrich, producer of over fifty feature films, including Oscar winner “Sling Blade,” “You Can Count On Me,” and “Croupier.”

During the three-day intensive workshop, attendees will learn from professionals what it’s really like to be a filmmaker. The Boot Camp, from Friday evening, April 21 through Sunday, April 23, is being co-sponsored by Fairleigh Dickinson University’s School of Art and Media Studies on FDU’s Metropolitan Campus, Teaneck, NJ.

According to Meistrich, the Boot Camp was established to give everyone access to the entertainment industry, while educating them about the truths, realities and specifics of making a film. Directors Dana Offenbach and Dave Gebroe, casting director Lina Todd, and legal expert Alfred Nardelli join Meistrich in teaching the workshop for directors, actors, producers, and writers – or anyone looking to break into film.

Step by step, participants will learn how to write and direct their own low-budget feature, hear extensive information on the “business” of the business and be guided through the steps of prepping, producing, finishing and delivering a film. Capping off the weekend will be an opportunity for everyone to pitch ideas to the featured speakers.

Director Dana Offenbach said: “Our goal is to have every participant leave with a working knowledge of how to break into the entertainment industry. The final day includes a question-and-answer and pitch session geared towards finding new talent.”

Meistrich added, “We have an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Clio. We discovered Billy Bob Thornton, Edie Falco, Mischa Barton and Sam Rockwell. Who’s next?”
