New York Enterprise 2008 Small Business Awards Honor James Barrood
Madison, NJ September 29, 2008) — “The New York Enterprise Report” hosted their annual Small Business Awards on September 17. The Advocate Award winner, James Barrood, is the executive director of FDU’s Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies in the Silberman College of Business. His award notes that he has expanded the school’s outreach programs to assist thousands of small business owners in the region, including its entrepreneurship seminars, the Family Business Forum program, its innovation workshops and lectures, and the Female Entrepreneurs’ Alliance. Since 1997, Barrood has elevated the entrepreneurship center to regional and national recognition.Barrood also developed a mentoring program that connects new entrepreneurs with seasoned entrepreneurs and students with business professionals. “Jim has been tremendously successful in expanding our outreach programs,” says William M. Moore, dean of the Silberman College of Business. “These programs appeal to a broad scope of people and engage a wide constituency.”
Off-campus, he sits on several boards, including the Silberman College of Business, North Jersey Wired, the Franklin Foundation for Educational Excellence, NJN 2008 Corporate Advisory Board, the National Association of Corporate Directors-NJ (Advisory Committee), and the Billion Minds Foundation. He is also a member of the Council on Competitiveness and Rotary International.
Barrood is a columnist for NJBIZ, has written articles for Entrepreneur and GSW magazines and local newspapers and is widely quoted both regionally and nationally.
