FDU Presidential Citation Awarded To Michael Avaltroni
TEANECK, N.J. (Sept. 24, 2009) — Michael Avaltroni, associate professor and chairman of the Department of Chemistry, was honored with a Presidential Citation at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s annual Academic Convocation on Sept. 23.
Under the direction of Becton College Dean Geoffrey Weinman, Avaltroni led a recent successful effort to start a school of pharmacy at FDU, which will enroll its first class in two years. In presenting the citation, FDU President J. Michael Adams said, “With enthusiasm and tenacity, you leapt into each critical step, from designing the curriculum with unique concentrations, to building relationships within the pharmacy community and to ensuring all elements are properly prepared for accreditation.”
The state has granted approval to the new pharmacy school and fundraising efforts are underway. “Engineered by your guiding hands — the hands of a loyal alumnus — the foundation is in place for an inspiring model for universities nationwide,” Adams said.
Avaltroni teaches general and physical chemistry, and introduction to forensic science. His research interests include developing methods to improve integration of orthopedic implants in joint replacement patients. He has been a faculty member at FDU since 2003.
Avaltroni has a B.S. degree from FDU (1999) and a master’s (2001) and Ph.D. (2003) from Princeton. He lives in
