NY/NJ Asian-American Law Enforcement Advisory Committee Signs Agreement with FDU’s Petrocelli College

Global Educational Opportunities for Asian-Americans

Teaneck, NJ (June 18, 2008) —The New York/New Jersey Asian-American Law Enforcement Advisory Committee and Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Petrocelli College have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to form an educational partnership. This is the first such agreement between the Committee and an institution of higher education. The group has a similar agreement with the New Jersey State Chiefs of Police Association.

The partnership with FDU increases access to courses in Asian languages to encourage members to continue their education —online and in the classroom.

The agreement includes increasing global educational opportunities for Asian-Americans by offering courses with FDU international partners, promoting seminars to expand knowledge of homeland security, cyber crime, and administrative science and encouraging members of the Asian-American community to consider a career in law enforcement or a related field.

Haruhisa (Luke) Higuchi, President, and David Chong, President Emeritus, represented the Asian-American Law Enforcement Advisory Committee. Joo Min Lee, Consul, Consulate General of the Republic of Korea, New York City, attended.

“ FDU has a long tradition in working with law enforcement,” said Kenneth T. Vehrkens, Dean of Petrocelli College, “and we are proud to provide educational opportunities for Asian and Asian-American law enforcement officers, By establishing this relationship, we are expanding opportunities in degree completion programs, certificate programs and graduate programs.”
