FDU presents ‘Opera…from a Sistah’s Point of View’ with Angela Brown on Nov. 12

Teaneck, N.J. (October 28, 2013) – The Office of Residence Life on FDU’s Metropolitan Campus will welcome back international opera sensation Angela Brown, for the first time since 2008. Brown will perform: “Opera…from a Sistah’s Point of View” at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12 in Wilson Auditorium in Dickinson Hall.

This event is open to FDU students and faculty and their guests. Admission is free, but attendees must register online at www.fdu.edu/reslifemetro. Every resident student that registers and attends Brown’s performance on Nov. 12, will receive a raffle ticket on the day of the event for a chance to win one of the following prizes: an iPad, two tickets to attend the Winter Ball on Dec. 5 or an FDU set (which includes an FDU sweatshirt, blanket and stuffed animal).

“Brown is a trailblazer on a mission to bring opera to everyone. Her witty and inspired solo show “Opera…from a Sistah’s Point of View” dispels the common myths of opera from her own sassy perspective. Laugh as she unravels convoluted plots, unafraid to make fun of the over-the-top situations and break down stereotypes to help us enjoy this art form from a different approach,” according to her website.

“‘Opera…from a Sistah’s Point of View’ has been presented throughout the country in concert halls, recital series, schools, community centers and churches and featured on CNN and in print media nationwide. Filled with show-stopping arias, poignant art songs, and moving spirituals, Angela Brown lifts audiences to their feet, opening hearts and ears to the beauty and imagination of opera…from a sistah’s point of view.”

“Angela’s captivating performance of Opera from a Sistah’s Point of View for over 2,000 Buffalo Public School students was a life changing experience for many of them. The students were on the edge of their seats during the performance taking in every note and interesting background story told by Angela.”
