9/11 Survivor To Speak at FDU’s Metropolitan Campus

TEANECK, NJ (September 23, 2011) In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, FDU’s Latino Promise Program welcomes Port Authority Police Department Officer (Ret.) Will Jimeno to speak about his experience as one of the last individuals to be rescued from the World Trade Center on September 11. Buried under debris for hours, Jimeno will describe this harrowing ordeal as depicted in the Oliver Stone film, “World Trade Center” and how it has changed his life.

“At Latino Promise, we encourage our students to emulate service-minded Hispanics like Will Jimeno,” says Director Fernando A. Alonso. “Leadership and volunteerism, qualities clearly portrayed by this hero, are just two of the values our program teaches. As Latino Promise students complete the ten-mile Third Annual Giant Steps for 9/11 walk for first responders on Sunday, October 2, they will have a better sense of self-worth, as well as a better understanding of what it means to give back to their community.”

All members of the FDU community are invited to attend this special event in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at 2pm at the Edward Williams Hall Auditorium located at 150 Kotte Place, Hackensack.
